Bethel wouldn't be proud of me, but...

I joined the office pool for the NCAA tourney.
I'm tied for first.
The tie breakers for the first round are hanging on Iowa.
If Iowa, and U Northern Iowa win in the first round,
I get $6!!!

If Georgetown & (?? I've forgotten the other one) win,
I loose $1.

Here's rooting for the state of corn!!! May my staying true to my upbringing pay off.

Oh, by the way, if you want a true picture of what I've been doing for the last few days (besides work) see the Rockin' Violinist's website, where she's kindly chronicled my weekend far better (and with far more enthusiasm) than I ever would have.

For Saturday - Bright, Bright Sunshiny Day
For Sunday - So, So Much Blue
For Monday - Love Shack Baby
For Tuesday - Pi (or is it "Phi") Day!!!
For Wed - Lucky Poker Madness
For Thursday - Singing Worms

And that's it! Her journal ends there as (sob) she leaves in a few hours.

P.S. While I'm at it, here are some other pictures, designed to make my family to the north jealous.

These pictures were taken yesterday, folks. Note the sandles, the flowers, and the sun! :) [Also, note the lack of faux-hawk. SEE BELOW FOR THE PICTURES of Steve, FOLKS!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!] 80-degree weather, baby!

Lil' sis-in0-law and I enjoy the sun by setting our feet free!

My favorite -- the Tulip Magnolia

As Promised!

Steve with our housemate, the trend-setter. (And his personal stylist) She wanted his 'do to be a little shorter, (like hers) but he wouldn't let her take scissors to his hair. So, his 'hawk looks more like a true mohawk.

And, yes, when Steve's parents came to town, they too saw his hair.

It was very useful in baggage claim. I set Steve looking for his parents in one direction, I went the other, and I knew that he had found his mother when the whole baggage claim shook with his mother's laughter.

What I didn't know is that this trend is something that started long, long ago...
(Do you see the similarity?) (Steve as a young man and Steve now.)

Crazy things are happening here.

For those not in the know, (my non UNC friends) -- Breaking news from UNC. Steve was off campus during this time, so I was not afraid for him, but was shocked to hear this news. These two articles (one from the campus paper, one from the local paper) are worth reading.

From the campus paper

From the local paper

I'm anxious to talk to my police officer friend to find out more. For those too lazy to read, a driver of Iranian decent and alumnus of our grand institution, somehow found himself on the pedestrian sidewalk at campus, driving slowly. So to get off the pedestrian walk, he decided to accelerate through "the Pit" (the main outdoor hang out spot for students), hitting 9 and seriously injuring 6 of those before his rapid exit past the library.

We're going on a HONEYMOON!!
I am ever so happy to announce that, after 19 months of marriage, we have decided to complete the American wedding tradition, and have a honeymoon. Before we reach the end of our 22nd month, the traditions will be complete.

With the help of some free plane tickets (for giving up our spots and flying standby over the holidays) our savings from the hippy commune, a bit of
creativity,* and some luck, we plan to spend a glorious week in Laura's dream honeymoon location, land of rainforests and mountains, seashore, secluded scenic spaces and midnight sun.

That's right!

We are now poor, but we are happy.

*Creativity because they wouldn't fly us to Alaska. We worked our way around that, (they're called "cruises" and they go to Alaska from other seaports. Aren't we sneaky?! :) ) but they couldn't fly us to Seattle and back again from the closest airport to us, so we're driving two hours south to go north. AND I get a cruise. Something I've wanted to try for a while.
